Making Progress

I cannot express just how great it feels to make progress on the endless list of things we need to do or discuss.  We got a good amount done this weekend which made it a lot easier to head back to work (if heading back to work is ever easy).  I've been on the hunt for bridesmaid dresses lately, but have been trying to check out department stores first to see if I could find any to my liking there.  I had thought that they at least might be less expensive for my girls and might make the whole process just a little easier.  Well, after hitting a few stores in the last week or so, I spent what felt like a considerable part of the weekend checking out the rest of the stores on my mental list of places to search.  After hitting department stores in Orland Park on Saturday and then working my way from the Macy's on State Street up Michigan Avenue to the 900 North Michigan shops on Sunday, I have come to the conclusion that getting dresses "off the rack" just might not work.  I am not looking for anything crazy, but what is out there right now just isn't what I was looking for.  Oh well - at least I tried and I can move on to bridal shops now.

Jack had a very quick trip to Michigan this weekend (was there and back within 24 hours), but once he was back, he put the final touches on our Save the Date cards and we got to printing those last night.  He helped get the cards ready while I addressed all of the envelopes, so those should be going out any day now. :) I love seeing the results from our work.  It helps reassure me that we are indeed making progress on things.

Little Details

I feel like I have slacked a little bit on posting to our site lately, but Jack did a great job in summarizing our recent activities.  We certainly have been busy with our own things, but everyone is busy.  Granted, we are all busy for our own reasons, but life just rarely seems to slow down any more.  I recently had two friends apologize to me because they hadn't called me sooner and the first thing I said to both of them was "Let's not say I am sorry for not calling.  We both know we are busy and we both know that nothing should be taken personally when we aren't able to talk as often as we'd like.  Let's make that one less worry."

Speaking of worries, it is tough to not stress about the minor details!  And I truly do mean minor - for example, what type of paper for the save the dates.  And although I like it when people leave comments on our blogs, please don't leave your suggestions for the paper - I have already made up my mind and have bought the supplies.  I know that I am a detail-oriented person, but I didn't think I would think twice about some of these things. Thankfully, I have people around me (Thanks Jack, Mom & Dad!) to remind me regularly that these are just small things and are not worth my stress or my mental energy and who put up with my stressed moments.  It takes some effort to keep it all in perspective, but I am working on it.

Save-The-Dates, Guestlist, Vendors and More

Lately Mary and I have been so busy, it's hard to wrap my head around the things we've accomplished and been working on since the last post.  I'll try to summarize though!

We have almost completely finalized the guest list, which is pretty amazing to me and just in time for the save-the-dates.  We've almost finalized the save-the-dates and Mary is hoping to get them ready to send this weekend while I'm off on a trip to Michigan.  We have a list of photographers we're ready to contact.  After Mass and a great breakfast at Mitchell's last Sunday, we stopped to get some information on tuxedos.  We started looking at invitations.  We also set some goals and deadlines for some important tasks yet to start and finish like transportation, dj, florist, etc.

Mary also started looking at bridesmaid dresses, took a short walk through some possible registration spots, and started researching hair and makeup vendors.  So there's a lot happening on the wedding front.  In addition to all that, we started helping Mary's grandparents pack for their move in May, we're planning our next fundraiser for the Avon Walk, and we're going to the gym three days a week!

Basically, we're a little busy right now :)
